Plural of Prius

Plural of Prius

Plural of Prius

(OP)
The plural of Octopus is Octopi, so the plural of Prius is Prii, right?

Mike McCann, PE, SE (WA)

RE: Plural of Prius

Depends which language "Prius" thinks it stems from. The -us to -i is from Latin.

For what it's worth, I always thought the plural of "octopus" was "octopodes" (pronounced ok-top-o-dees)

A.

RE: Plural of Prius

MultiPri?

RE: Plural of Prius

Douchemobiles

RE: Plural of Prius

@Tick … I thought that was reserved for the "Smart" "cars" (the Mercedes golfcarts)

@Zeus … good point ! It's a made up word, so at best it's pig-latin.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

RE: Plural of Prius

Prius is a Latin word meaning to go before. It is not a noun, so at least, in Latin, there is no plural. If you are referring to several Prius cars, then you could say just that: Prius cars. In fact, you can use that form for any car make, like Mercedes cars, Rolls-Royce cars, GTS cars, Ford E-Series cars etc.

You can also use this form when the language is misleading eg

The Jeep Compasses just don't work.

Does he mean a Jeep Compass or the compass in a Jeep. If you said Jeep Compass cars just don't work then it would be immediately obvious that you were talking about the cars. Alternatively, say The compasses in a Jeeps just don't work. Having said all that, I don't even know if a Jeep has a compass.

RE: Plural of Prius

"cars" … who'd 've thunk it !? excellent suggestion !!

And lots of Baboons is a Congress. Who would have thought?

Mike McCann, PE, SE (WA)

RE: Plural of Prius

A pride of Prius.

pants on fire, according to politifact

(But still funny)

(2B)+(2B)' ?

RE: Plural of Prius

Wikipedia lists congress of Baboons with three references including the Oxford Dictionary.

RE: Plural of Prius

Lmao! Wikipedia is actually cited in the politifact article as one of the sources of the fake meme:

Quote (politifact)

Two places where we did find it [congress of baboons] were sources in which virtually anybody could insert a definition on a whim: Wikipedia and UrbanDictionary.com.

The liberal listing use of citations on this subject at wikipedia seems conclusive... unless you actually follow the links, where you'll see these sources don't support what wikipedia says they do.

Note that according to politifact, the baboon congress terminology was contradicted by: Dictionary.com, Merriam Webster, the Oxford Dictionary, a hardcopy Random House Unabridged Dictionary and interviews with a baboon specialist and two lexicographers.

RE: Plural of Prius

Here is my take the Preme should be the singular form of Prius
