RE: NFPA CWBSP

I took it awhile back Travis. It wasn't any harder than any of the NICET testing I have taken, although I did not have near as much time left at the end of this exam.

RE: NFPA CWBSP

I am interested to know what you think of it after you've taken it.

Why did NFPA come up with this?

RE: NFPA CWBSP

I am not sure why they came up with it. I was seriously mentally gearing up to take the CFPS exam, and this thing came out, so I decided to take it instead. Figured it was more in line with what I do day to day. I consider it a feather in my cap more than anything. Plan reviewers are fine with my NICET III. I have yet to have one even comment on the fact that I am a CWBSP.

NFPA says that they have been asked for years to create a certification for fire sprinkler design people. I guess they finally decided it was worth while to pursue and do. The requirements are similar to NICET III. I believe it will be seen as the equivalent of NICET III in the future. As Dennis said, it will be more of a feather in the cap than anything else.

I took the exam today. It wasn't difficult. As with any exam like this, some of the questions were readily known. There were a couple where the wording is poor and could lead to different answers, or answers that weren't an option. But, most tests like this are to choose the best answer. There were a few that were quite specific and I just had to look up. I'd say anyone with the experience level needed (5 years) shouldn't really have any issues at all.

Hopefully it will eventually mean something in the industry. Right now, it is just a feather in the cap.

RE: NFPA CWBSP

Good to know, I am thinking of taking it.

RE: NFPA CWBSP

Travis, did they have any questions on seismic bracing?

LOL!! I know how you love bracing. As I try to recall, I don't remember if there were any or not. There are questions from Chapter 9 for sure, so different versions of the test may have seismic on it. But, at most there would be 1-2 questions on it.

RE: NFPA CWBSP

Congrats Travis! And welcome to the Certified Water Based Professionals club...lol. I wonder if the more people take it, the more it will mean, or if it will ever mean anything? I took it because my employer was willing to pay for it. I doubt it will ever replace my NICET certification though!

Thanks. I found it funny when I actually got my certification #. It was 24. My NICET is 104478. There are just a few more NICET certs out there. I don't know if it will ever amount to much, but I figured it couldn't hurt and it may mean something one day. I figure if I go back and get my CFPS again, I could have a virtual alphabet behind my name.
