Could someone give me the mathematical reasoning behind the mass participation factor formula.I mean how defining it guarantee that it represent the contribution of a corresponding mode?
can you give me a reference where I might find explanation?

Search modal analysis. It is a simple weighted summation (or integral) of the mass and the normalized mode shape for a given mode.

Basically it gives you the effective mass associated with a particular mode. This can be important where you are dealing with non-uniform mass distributions.
