Bearing Capacity Test

Bearing Capacity Test

Bearing Capacity Test

(OP)
Hi,

I need to design a concrete raft slab and I just wonder what on site test would be most accurate for determining the soil bearing capacity. Also I will need to estimate potential settlement.

So would a plate bearing test or spt test be best suited. Also would any other lab tests be advisable to get an accurate figure?

Thanks.

RE: Bearing Capacity Test

I'd opt to bring in a geotech because there are many possibilities to use, depending on your exact situation. Even though I minored in structures back then, I'd not venture into designing something I had no experience in practically. Plate bearing tests are rarely done and likely of no use for your job.

RE: Bearing Capacity Test

SPT should give good results.
A less accurate but easier method is the dynamic cone penetrometer test.
