I hope some expertise to explain me about the difference between the axial and vertical split case multi stage pumps.
what is the design differences? applications, pressure ranges..
which design should have a balance drum/disk? and which one is equipped with leak off sleeve?
what is the difference between the balancing drum and balancing disk? I could not understand some published explanations!

There is an FAQ describing balance disk versus drum. Axial split pumps are typically rated to lower pressure. They probably cost less. They often have opposed impellers which eliminates the need for a balance disk. Barrel pumps (vertical split) probably cost more and can be rated to higher pressures. They may have opposed impellers with a throttle sleeve or aligned impellers with a balance drum.

Any pump manufacturer’s catalog will tell you the pressure rating of these configurations.
