I wasn't sure where to post this but since there are shock waves involved I thought i would start here although it may be more of a physics question. I am doing some trigger design on a paintball gun and want to try and do some rough drop scenario calculations. The main component a am trying to evaluate is the trigger sear and how high i would need to drop the gun before the sear spring was overcome.

The sear coming unlatched under its own inertia seems easy enough to evaluate - I seeing if the kinetic energy of the latch just before impact has enough to over come the elastic potential energy of the spring hold it in place (plus friction work). Anyway i am wondering if there is another scenario where the sear is kicked out from an impact traveling through the body of the gun. For simplification I am think of just two bodies - the body of the gun and the sear. The two objects travel at the same velocity until impact. The two object are couple through a pivot pin and the sear contact face. First of all would it be conceivable that the shock wave could impart energy through the sear face contact face and knock the sear out of place?

Secondly would it possible that the shock wave could transfer more energy to the sear body than it actually had in the form of kinetic energy before impact. Basically is an shock wave through the gun the worst case scenario or the inertia case described above?

If the shock wave scenario then how i could start to evaluate it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
