VDI 2230 2003 edition

A new version of VDI 2230, Systematic calculation of high duty bolted joints, has been released this month and is available for purchase from Beuth Verlag at:

http://www.beuth.de

The new version is bilingual (German and English), contains 171 pages, and costs €178,60 (printed version) or €193,63 (electronic version).

I highly recommend this guideline if you need information regarding fastened joints.

RE: VDI 2230 2003 edition

CoryPad,
The publisher Beuth Varlag GmbH informed me that I can get hold of VDI 2230 from Global Engg Documents (http://www.global.ihs.com), but Global informed me that there system shows this VDI 2230 to be only in German language. Your post as well http://www.beuth.de shows that it is bilingual (German & English). So, can it be confirmed that this VDI 2230 (published Feb'03) is indeed in English language also? Is there another source to get this publication in USA?

Thanks for your help.

hrehman,

I have no idea why Beuth would direct you to Global.  Apparently Global has not updated their information - they are referring to the 2001 edition that was German only.  The 2003 edition is bilingual - left column is German text, right column is the exact same text translated into English.  I downloaded my copy directly from Beuth using their myBeuth service.  I recommend obtaining the document directly from Beuth (this will be cheaper than Global).  I know of no other US source than Global.  If you want to deal with them, contact someone there and tell them to update their information so that you can get the most recent edition.

RE: VDI 2230 2003 edition

CoryPad,
Thanks for the quick response. Upon further enquiry, Global did confirm that they don't have this newer publication in stock and their system shows an older version. And, they referred me to get this publication directly from Beuth.
Can you comment on the print quality of downloaded version (I guess in PDF format)? Would it be better to get a printed version than to download it, if shipping time is not a constraint?

Thanks again.

The downloadable file is in .pdf format.  I printed the pdf file using a standard laser printer and the quality is excellent.  I see no benefit to obtaining a printed version - the .pdf file will come much sooner, and you will have an electronic copy as a backup in case the paper becomes yellow with time, tears, burns, is lost, etc.
