Heat transfer amplifier question
Heat transfer amplifier question
(OP)
I am new to this feild and have a simple question. I would simply like to know if I should calculate heat transfer problems using volumetric heat generation or just heat q or heat flux. For example I have a small rectangular amplifier (2"x1"x.5" lxwxthk respectivily) the manufacturure specified a heat loss of IV=6W. I know the energy balance and heat equations are very simple however I am uncertain whether to convert to volumetric heat genteration (as the energy converts from electrical to thermal) or to just use heat specified by the manufacturure. My goal here is to calculate the heat loss after connecting a heat sink to the amplifier's mounting surface.
Thank you for any response

RE: Heat transfer amplifier question
I'm not sure I understand what it is you want to determine. Is it maximum amplifier temperature? You indicate you want to calculate the heat loss, but that is determined by your convection and conduction paths and the temperature change across those media (leaving out radiation for simplicity). Do you plan on doing this by hand calculations or using FEA code?
