Pressure vessel for a FPSO and ASME VIII Div.1

Pressure vessel for a FPSO and ASME VIII Div.1

(OP)
Dear All

I have a question about the scope of ASME VIII Div. 1: Is included in ASME VIII Div.1 scope a pressure vessel design for operate in a FPSO (floating production storage and offloading)?

RE: Pressure vessel for a FPSO and ASME VIII Div.1

Can't see why not. All you need to do is add in the pitch and roll acceleration forces due to the FPSO not being fixed.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

I have some doubt beucause in ASME VIII Div. 1 and Div.2 state:
item 2 of U-1 in ASME VIII Div. 1 states: "...the following
classes of vessels are not included in the scope of this Division.....(-a) those within the scope of other Sections"

And in ASME VIII Div. 2 item 1.2.1.2 states:
"Rules of this Division may be used for the construction of the following pressure vessels....:"
(b) Pressure vessels installed in ocean-going ships, barges, and other floating craft....

Thank you

U-1(c)(2) "...however, any pressure vessel which meets all the applicable requirements of this Division may be stamped..."

Choice between Div 1 & Div 2 is frequently made by the buyer.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Dear Soave,

make sure that Laws, Rules and Regulations such as IGC of SOLAS/IMO and their relative MARINE CLASS rules/amendments do not have precedence over other Pressure Vessel Codes such as EN 13445 or ASME.BPVC.

Some design and construction rules may differ from those Codes.

best regards,

tigny

Tigny,

Thank you! I will check some FPSO regulations

If the vessel qualifies as a Sec. VIII-1/2 vessel when installed onshore, it can also be designed with Sec. VIII-1/2 offshore, with the additional consideration of classification society requirements, fatigue from ship motion, different wind/motion load combinations depending on its probability of occurrence, probably some blast scenarios, and hull bending.

Thank you RaymondN, We are considering all requirements for offshore installation.
