Advice on Machining Nylon 11?

Advice on Machining Nylon 11?

Advice on Machining Nylon 11?

(OP)
The part is about 3" OD 6061-T6 that is also fairly hollow. This will be coated in Nylon 11. I require tolerances of plus-minus .0005. Reason for this tolerance, guaranteed interference fit.

Obviously, they can't coat to that spec. I now need to rely on machining the nylon. It's a coating thickness that will be .006-.008

Can you grind this stuff?
Shave?
Polish to size?
Roll to size?
Turn on lathe?

Any suggestions and experiences with this stuff appreciated.

RE: Advice on Machining Nylon 11?

If you can use nylon with some molybdenum sulfide added, it will machine (lathe turn) much better than plain nylon 11.

The influence exerted by the Internet of Things (IoT) means that there is a steadily growing need for collaboration in industry. Partners from new industries and areas of application need to be integrated in cross-company business processes to ensure that the lifecycle of smart, connected products can be managed from end to end. White Paper – The Challenges of PLM Collaboration
There is cross-company collaboration - and then there is cross-company collaboration. Large-scale corporations and joint ventures need different mechanisms to protect intellectual property from those required for communication between different company locations with heterogeneous IT landscapes.
