I'm interested in designing a "preferred parts" list to be used by design engineering and purchasing. Is anyone aware of a source for guidelines or other helpful information in undertaking such a task?

Many factors go in to selecting parts for a PPL. These include supply base, component cost (and TCO), lifecycle, roadmap, and a host of others. A PPL will tend to be company, and maybe even product line, specific due to the product specific and end-market specific requirements. Thus overlap will tend to be minimal except in the more commonly used parts (e.g., 0805 0.1uF X7R 50V capacitors... or 2x10 .1" headers...etc.).

So ask your engineers and purchasing people what factors are important to them, and have them build the list. Or you can contact me for help.
