Hello everyone

Gas compressor with rated power 13000 HP,driven by electric motor of course with VSD.
Which is better for design, to install Gas compressor and electrical motor in same base plate or in separate. If in separate what is the advantages?

The compressor and motor will each have their own baseplate which may be attached to the same, or to separate skids. If you are talking about the foundation, you should place both compressor and motor on the same foundation. The width of the foundation should vary below each unit, if necessary, to distribute the load from motor and compressor equally to the soil below it.

I don't think it is necessarily separate baseplates.

Basically, one single baseplate will twist due to the torque and gearbox in between (I suppose and assume this is centrifugal due to VFD, most likely). So it has to have sufficient torsional stiffness which make it also more costly.

Alternative you could have compressor and gear on baseplate and motor directly mounted on foundation (can also be baseplate or just soleplate).

Think also of other considerations such as transportation, single baseplate allows for one shipment and direct installation as one package.

I would say, within 12 ~ 13 meters length, common baseplate is achievable. And it is definitely the OEM who has to confirm your selection.

Maybe a difference in terminology.
In my mind both a pump and motor come from the mfgr with a baseplate and bolt holes, for leveling and attaching those items to anything, a skid, the floor, a support of some kind, or a foundation.

A skid, is for ease of transport, lifting, hauling, pulling in place, the motor, pump and gearbox as a single unit, or perhaps as individual units with independent skids, for setdown directly on a pad, floor, foundation or support of some kind. A skid is usually optional. Baseplates are attached to the skid. If no skid is provided, the units would be bolted directly, baseplate to floor, to foundation, or to some other type of support.

If a skid is provided, the units would be leveled, aligned and bolted (or welded) to the skid and the skid would be bolted to the floor, foundation, or simply set on a concrete pad, or, if small units, with skid set directly on soil.
