Ive noticed on several col schedules on other firms' drawings that they sometimes include dead and live load at each story or at the base of the column.

We've designed several concrete bldgs and have not provided this information, yet have never gotten a question on it.

Does anyone know the intended purpose for providing these? Does it relate to temporary shoring?

It might be of value to an engineer in the future, attempting to modify your design; it would save him the trouble of calculating the loads from scratch.

im using IBC 2009, 2012. Which are you using? Or rather, where can i find this code requirement

NYC building code 2014 (but it's in all previous editions of nyc as well) - might be a local oddity though.

107.7.4 Column schedules
Column schedules shall show the design load contributed by the framing at any level and the total accumulated design load at each level

Among other things, I like having the numbers on the plans so that I can do easy ballpark column and punching shear checks on site.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
