Crane collapse on the Tappan Zee Bridge (Westchester County NY)

Crane collapse on the Tappan Zee Bridge (Westchester County NY)

RE: Crane collapse on the Tappan Zee Bridge (Westchester County NY)

"indefinitely" in the news headline is a bit extreme. It looks like something that could probably be cleaned up in a day or so..

RE: Crane collapse on the Tappan Zee Bridge (Westchester County NY)

Absolutely, they had a RT crane and loader out there cleaning up in less than 15 minutes.

Looks to me like one of the new MLC-300 cranes with the variable position counterweight. Driving or pulling pile between the old span and one of the new approach spans (from mats on the new approach span). Had a lot of boom on it for pile driving though, I'm guessing around 300'.

Thankfully sounds like the traffic injuries weren't too substantial.

RE: Crane collapse on the Tappan Zee Bridge (Westchester County NY)

True but they probably could've used a better way to describe it. Indefinitely just has a bad ring to it. They could've said "clean-up is underway but there is no indication of how long the process will take"

I think the indefinite part was the inspection for damage to the bridge and putting up temporary guard rails and so on. Still, can't take that long given the critical nature of the bridge.
