T3 20AH Battery Terminals

T3 20AH Battery Terminals

T3 20AH Battery Terminals

We are using 20AH batteries with T3 terminals and aren't convinced of our current termination method of an o-ring with a bolt through it. We've had a problem of arching and when technicians are inside the cabinets around these batteries having them short on the frames. The only insulation we've been using is electrical tape around the entire connection but it doesn't look very professional.

Are there any proper connections for these T3 terminals, or how are others attaching to these batteries. There isn't much on the internet in terms of examples of uses, yet these are extremely popular batteries.

RE: T3 20AH Battery Terminals

I should of specified, the battery didnt conduct, the cabinet they're mounted in did even though we've tried to insulate everything. We've though about heatshrink but cannot find any that are large enough and allow for maintinance and replacement easily.

I'd like to know how others are using these batteries. Another suggestion is to put the 4 required into a standard casing with say an Anderson plug so each battery and wires connecting them aren't exposed.

RE: T3 20AH Battery Terminals

APC use batteries of that approximate size and shape in their smaller UPS designs. Typically two 12V blocs are linked in series by a copper bar and ring lugs are used for the other connections. A moulded plastic cover held in place by double-sided adhesive foam prevents access to the terminals. If you google apc battery and look through the numerous images you'll see what I mean.

IRstuff - any blue flash as current is broken is an arc.

Yeah, I know you know. tongue

I guess it's 'just' a case of the metalwork of the enclosure making contact with the battery terminals and the blue flash as the contact breaks.
