measuring ripple factor in battery chargers

(OP)
Hi all,

We have a 184 Cell (each cell is of 275Ah, 1.2V, Gaz Make NiCd )battery bank and a battery charger which is some 20 years old. Now, I want to test battery charger for its performance that it is performing good or not?

1. What paramters should I test and check for performance of battery charger?
2. Should I measure ripple factor to get idea about health of filter capacitors?
3. How should I measure ripple factor? with what equipements?

Thanks for your consideration.

What's the rating of the current (old) battery charger?

RE: measuring ripple factor in battery chargers

there are lots of parameters to look for. firs of all have a look on the preciseness of the charging voltage. In different temperatures. then have a look on the current ripple, especially on the end stage of charging. Life, Efficiency and etc would also have greate value to be considered.
