Gasket spitting

Gasket spitting

Gasket spitting

Hi everybody,

I have a gasket that is repeatedly splitting in the same spot. I am looking for some help understanding the stresses that are causing a gasket to split.

Looking at the attached picture: the gasket is splitting from the center hole to the outer radius where indicated by the red lines.

The gasket is 0.045” (1.14 mm) thick
The center hole is pressurized to 100PSI (690 kPa) and has a diameter of 0.12” (3 mm)
The outer radius is 0.16” (4 mm)
The estimated pressure on gasket due to the compressive force between the plates is 3000 PSI (20700 kPa)
The gasket type is http://www.garlock.com/en/products/blue-gard-style... (there is a data sheet .pdf link on the page.)

Thanks All
