After Interview Language

After Interview Language

After Interview Language

(OP)
When writing a follow-up to an interview, which sounds "better"?

"Thank you for the opportunity for interviewing with you..."
or
"Thank you for your time during the interview with me..."

"Art without engineering is dreaming; Engineering without art is calculating."

RE: After Interview Language

Of the four versions so far, only KENAT's "Thank you for your time during the interview" is the only one that would not leave me uneasy about the candidate's fluency.

RE: After Interview Language

He says while using "only" twice in a sentence that only needed one "only". winky smile

RE: After Interview Language

That's what comes of trying to type a reply at the same time as giving IT support to a family member!

RE: After Interview Language

Since you had the interview, it doesn't make sense to be thankful for the opportunity to interview...

I would say something more along the lines of "Thank you for granting me an interview..."

RE: After Interview Language

Both of you know you're talking about the interview.

Dear Pat Smith, thank you for the opportunity to interview. Should you have any further questions about me resume, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards, me.

That's too rigid, and doesn't really say anything.

I'd go with:

Mr(s) Pat Smith, Thanks for your time, I enjoyed getting to learn more about the company and the open position, it seems like interesting work. Nice to meet another (INSERT COMMON INTEREST HERE) fan. I look forward to hearing from you, if this one doesn't work out then please keep me in mind for any future openings.

Thanks, me

formal and stilted, or informal and folksy ?

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

RE: After Interview Language

I like 1Gibson's approach. Don't even mention the word "interview." Just thanks for the time, I enjoyed learning, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

RE: After Interview Language

I second 1gibsons thoughts.
No need to mention the interview.
Just thank him for his time, then go straight to what interests you most about the company and position.
Definitely mention any common interests, or background. (same college maybe?)
Also leave it open for him to respond by asking any questions or concerns that may have come into your head on the drive home, or since the interview.

RE: After Interview Language

my 2c ...
it's part of the hiring manager's job to do interviews, so he wasn't doing you a great favour; so I wouldn't say "thank you for taking the time to interview with me" ... would he thank you for doing a calculation ?

you can say, IMHO, "thank you for giving me the opportunity of an interview (ie for selecting you for an interview) and for discussing the job and your company with me; it was an interesting and rewarding experience for me. if you have any questions, I am at your beck and call (ok, rephrase that one !)."

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

"it's part of the hiring manager's job to do interviews, so he wasn't doing you a great favour"

Yeah, you should notify him how lucky HE was!

Thanks all. I mostly went with 1gibson's version. Now the waiting game begins.

"Art without engineering is dreaming; Engineering without art is calculating."
