This site may offer some clarity. lmgtfy.com

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

RE: PAN meaning.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pan ?????

or

PAN = A prefix used before a radio transmission to indicate that the message is urgent.

EAXMPLE:

"PAN, PAN, PAN... aircraft XYZ has an urgent weather situation: need heading guidance to vector around storm front."

NOTE.
"MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY..." is a universal prefix used in radio transmission to indicate that a genuine emergency situation exists.

RE: PAN meaning.

Perhaps the OP should post the EXACT reference and context of what they're asking about. Otherwise, he will continued to get bashed for what appears to be 4th grade question.
