Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

(OP)
I have heard that this is possible with NX without using iges/step etc. But I can not find where to read/import these files into NX.

Any help would be appreciated!

RE: Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

It sounds like you are referring to the Theorem Solutions Direct translators (http://www.theorem.co.uk/).  These are very good, yet expensive, translators.

RE: Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

yep there is a direct translator but they are discontinuing it...and they will not tell you how to set it up...

When I search the help in NX, I get the following:
It doesn't say anything about extra translators
this is help for "open part file dialog"

Files of Type

RE: Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

the people here put on a sales seminar and touted the new catia translator was included in NX. and if you look into the install directory UGCatia is new. This has the .dll files for the new direct translator. I tried to find out how to set the compig to get the damn thing to work.

Here's the text of the call I submitted,

Greetz, At a training sales seminar, they told us that NX had a beta catia translator included. But did not give information on how to get the translator to work....

Please give me those instructions.

Ken

The result of the Beta testing was that the Catia V4 Model Import/Export did not meet our production standards and we have discontinued our relationship with the Alliance partner who developed the tool.

There are no plans for a replacement in the near future.

RE: Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

If you want to open Catia V4 model in NX.

Choose open file, Type * in file name, you will see all the files in your directory, then select the Catia file.

Does not work for all Catia file.

RE: Opening catia v4 files in UG NX direct translator ??

You are absolutly right "verbom", It did'nt worked for me too. There was some error like :
"The following files could not be loaded causing this open to fail: The Parasolid CATIA translator failed to read the CATIA file."
Can you please tell me the possible reason for it or any other way to Import CATIA file in NX.
Urgent

v4 catia files(*.model) typically have spaces in the file name.
A Aix/unix space character will look like a Plus/minus sign on a pc.  I renamed the .model file(no spaces or any odd characters) then it read in fine.

Had to toggle thru the layers to find the part.

Came up with some message saying these is a beta version of the translator.
And that it may not be included in later releases.
