I just took the Civil - Water Resources and Environmental Exam. Where/how does one designate your specialty to others? My stamp would just indicate civil, with no designation of water resources or environmental. I work in the environmental field and it would be nice to show that I'm a civil engineer, with an environmental specialty. On your resume, signature line, no where?? Just curious.

Resume only. Too much info for signature line. Let your competence and experience speak louder than your marketing.

If you take a specialty exam, such as structural, it will be on the stamp by law but that is not the case in all states. As Ron says though, your reputation should precede you here. However, even after 37 years of practice, I still cannot convince some I am not an Architect. Some just never learn.

Maine has no designation for SE but I took the 16-hour SE exam in lieu of the PE exam. Thus I put "Professional & Structural Engineer" on my business emails and similar. Though for my case I have to be careful as SE is a title regulated similar to the PE in some states and any emails to out of state clients I have to take care to not imply that I have an SE or PE in that state, something similar could apply for other licenses/specialties.

For your case I'd either just do as Ron suggest and let experience speak for your specialty, or add "Professional & Environmental Engineer" in your signature line.

From what I've seen, for engineers, the higher up to the owner the less signature lines. I rarely see PE in an email. But I do see a lot of Architects with a whole bunch of acronyms.
