Hi everyone. New member here. My question to you all has to do with LEGITIMATE credentials within the Occupational Health field, particularly Industrial Hygiene.

I'm sure you all are aware of the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential granted through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene) and the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential granted through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Of course, those two are considered the gold standard in the industry. However, I've come across another credential and was hoping that I could get a little bit of insight about it, if possible, before deciding whether or not to invest the time and money in pursuing it.

The Association of Professional Industrial Hygienists offers a Registered Industrial Hygienist and a Registered Professional Industrial Hygienist credential. My background in particular seems more in line with achieving the RIH or RPIH since the review process revolves solely around professional experience in the field as opposed to taking an exam.

In short, I'd like to know if the RIH or RPIH credentials are considered to be legitimate or not. Is it worth pursuing or is the CIH really the only legitimate credential in the Industrial Hygiene game.

Thanks so much for your assistance. I've been trying to get a clear answer about this for some time.

In due time RIH and RPIH may develop credentials in the private sector and with government. My take would be to get CIH and CSP credentials since these two organizations have established footholds with the private sectors and governments in the USA and world wide.
