Hi all,

I've been trying to research how the height/displacement is measured in a railway car, between the bogie and the cab. Is there a suspension between the two? If so, is the height of that measured in a closed loop fashion in real time?

Generally speaking, the wheels, axles and truck side frames are unsprung. On a railcar, there are springs (the suspension) btwn. the truck side frames and under the truck bolster, which spans across the car btwn. the two truck side frames, then the truck bolster carries the rest of the car structure. So, from the truck bolster up things are basically solid connected and only elastic deformation takes place. On engines (motive power) and self powered transit cars, the electric motors are basically carried by the axle they drive, with some torque arm structure up to the car body. To the extent that the springs compress from light car to fully loaded car, the top of the car settles also.
