Dear all, we interested in purchasing an estimating, planning/control and management software mainly for EPC projects (Overhead power transmission and distribution). Do any of you have any experience with a commercial package??

We implemented E2 Shop Tech in our machine shop around August of this year. We are very happy with it.

If you have to schedule multiple, concurrent projects which share many common resources (of finite capacity), you may look at the software Schedlyzer Lite ( http://optisol.biz/multi_project_scheduling.htm ). Any software based on Critical Path Method (CPM) is not really very efficient in such cases because they do not do automatic resource leveling across projects. Schedlyzer Lite automatically generates multi-project schedules without resource overloading. For scheduling job shop production, it is superior to any ERP package including Shoptech's E2.
