Hi All,

I am trying to use Solidworks Simulation to analyze a design that I have already validated by hand calcs and physical testing. Basically I have a flat rectangular plate that has a uniform pressure on one side. The opposite side of the rectangular plate is supported around the edge by a "picture frame" structure and a no-penetration constraint. This setup means the center of the plate is free to deflect and the edges of the plate are free to "lift" off of the support structure. The edges of the plate are not constrained in the lateral direction. Basically this arrangement should allow the plate to be in pure bending with minimal membrane stress.

My Von Mises Stresses and Stress Intensity (Tresca) values are what I expect. However, if I create a pressure vessel analysis and then try to linearize the stresses at the center of the plate, I get huge membrane stresses. Additionally, the stress intensity values listed under the linearized results are way higher than those reported in the stress intensity results plot. I've attached some pictures to help explain. Am I misinterpreting these linearized results? The pressure vessel study was set up to use the results from only one analysis. I am thoroughly confused by this result. Can anyone help? I appreciate any pointers!
