any one out there still doing outside diameter roller burnishing??
i would like to find out if i a process we used years ago for railroad axle journals could be applied to large mill rolls i am now working with. i am also interested in internal (hole) sizing using a burnishing tool.
this seems to be an old process and considered to be slow, but may work in my situation.
thanks in advance,

RE: roller burnishing

Take a look at www.cogsdill.com there you should find answers to all your questions.

all the best, gogsie.

RE: roller burnishing

This may be an old process that a lot of "degreed" machinists don't know about, but it's far from slow!!!  If you're doing any kind of volume, this process will run rings around any other finishing process.  It gives excellent surface properties to the material being worked.  Ditto for what gogsie said, Cogsdill is an ace in roller burnishing.

RE: roller burnishing

We have sucess with burnishing 60 dia rollers made of mild steel. Tool custom made by cogsdill.

RE: roller burnishing

The University of Toledo Micro Machining Center has been conducting research on Roller Burnishing of Universal Joint Journals for the past few years.   Perhaps you could contact them.

I don't have the web site, but here is an e-mail address and they will be able to point you in the right direction.
