Our process involves high concentrations of maleic acid at about 120 C in reactors manufactured from 304 and 316. Corrosion is occuring at the top of the reactor which is certain to be caused by chloride SCC due to trace chlorides in the process. Does anyone have conclusive evidence that maleic can also be a cause of corrosion using these grades of SS? Any websites/pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
