Does anyone have a source for span tables for non-standard joist spacing?  The project is an addition to the client's 1930's home.  The floor level of the main house, existing sun porch, and new addition must be matched.  The span of the new addition is 14', but we cannot use joists larger than 6" and maintain code required ceiling height in the shed below.  The client does not want to use engineered wood alternatives because they are not "historic".  The inspector does not want to accept engineering calculations, he wants to see a published span table supporting the design.  My thought was to put 2x6 SPF #2 joists on 8" centers, but I haven't found a published span table to support that spacing and load.

Second question concerns loading.  The inspector is insisting that the design load must be 60 psf.  Again, he wants to see printed documentation supporting any reduction in this load.  Can anyone point me to any published literature that would support reducing the loading?  The intended application of the space would be a bedroom.

woodturner9...your inspector should understand that span tables are generalizations of an engineer's calculations and are not as good as a qualified engineer's analysis based on site conditions and materials specific to the project.  

As for loading, 60 psf seems a bit high for a bedroom.  Check the building code having jurisdiction in your area for appropriate loading.  

If you inspector remains unreasonable, go to the Building Official and state your case.
