Drawing Link - Inventor 2011
Drawing Link - Inventor 2011
(OP)
Hi All,
Is there a way to turn off the link between an ipj file and a drawing, dwg, file.
To clarify, when you create views in a drawing they are automatically linked to say an ipj file and any changes to the ipj file are automaticcaly updated in the drawing file. What I want to do is break this link.
Can this be done?
Best Rgds,
Dave r.

Can you state what you are trying to achieve?..
e.g. move the file outside the project, or create a copy of the assembly and change the link to the base view..
You can't have a view that isn't linked to a data set, you would be left with a bunch of lines like 2D autocad. If this is what you want just export or save as an AutoCAD dwg. You may be using an Inventor dwg and don't know there is a difference..

I meant ipt, but I take your point about a data set. I was just trying to be frugal with the amount of drawings required to make a point.
I'm putting together various procedure manuals for the products we produce and one has to write them in such a way that anyone can follow it. As I'm sure you will know, this can be a very tedious process and, in our case, will involve a lot of procedural steps with drawings attached.
After posting the query I've decided that the only true way is to leave well alone and go for broke with my drawings.
Best Rgds,

I will look at that just to increase my knowledge base on Inventor but, as I said before, I'll just keep it simple in case we have modifications in the future.
