Video Through Internet to Video Out

Video Through Internet to Video Out

Video Through Internet to Video Out

(OP)
Hello,

I need some advice. I want to make the opposite of this:

http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2505&param=en535727

The IP Security Camera seems to get video input to the microcontroller and send to the internet (ethernet).

I want to send video data to the microcontroller through ethernet (internet stream), decode the video and output it to a video out.

Can I achieve this. Help would be appreciated on hardware requirements etc.

I have seen people make internet mp3 radio (i.e. getting audio streams to microcontroller, sampling audio stream and sending data to audio decoder and then to headphone or speakers.

I want to do this with video + audio i guess.

RE: Video Through Internet to Video Out

A high-MIPS processor... without that, you're just throwing away data as fast as it can come in.  Although decoding is significantly easier than encoding, MIPS-wise.

1. I have the input stream (link to a video stream on the internet)

2. I need a microcontroller to "encode" the video stream (sample the video stream)

3. I need an external video decoder (a separate hardware) to connect to the microcontroller to display the video (video out)

Is this correct, I want to see if i have the right idea to achieve this?

I don't see why you don't want to use the off-the-shelf solution that you've presented.  Regardless of what you want to do with the video stream, you still need a processor of some sort to handle the internet transactions, so your citation seems to fit the bill, and then some.

Well IRstuff, I'm not sure the solution i presented will work.

It shows that it is capable of audio streams (internet radio) but I don't think it will be suitable for video. The "PIC18F87J60" is 10.5 MIPS will this be enough to process video?

RE: Video Through Internet to Video Out

The first entry on your link:
"IP Security Camera

In this example, a video camera is connected via Ethernet to the Internet. Real time video can be streamed to any location with an IP address. It is also possible to control the camera remotely, to pan and zoom on new subjects. Applications include home surveillance while at work, or surveillance of a second home, boat, or other remote location.

RE: Video Through Internet to Video Out

Doesn't sound like you're doing any video processing at all... it sounds like you're taking a pre-processed feed and sending it along to someone else.

One should purchase (for example) a WD TV Live box for ~$100 at your local Costco.

If you're trying to build something similar from scratch, then you shouldn't be asking how to get started.
