Please forgive my ignorance on the subject of helicopter aerodynamics, but I have a question: Is there any value in being able to vary the main rotor speed in relation to the engine speed?

I have a design for a CVT that can handle high levels of torque. The CVT is (fairly) light weight, has a wide ratio range (6.0+) and could even bring the rotor to a complete stop (geared neutral). I am studying various applications for my CVT and was wondering if it would be useful for a helicopter main rotor transmission.

Any help would be appreciated.

The helicopter by design keeps a constant RPM in the rotor system,By changing the speed you get bad vibes,excessive coning and loss of efective thrust to the tail roror,and in flight the torque required to regain the RPM could at the extream low end would be a major problem.
