Wear resistance and frictional coeff of Nickel plated Zamack 3
Wear resistance and frictional coeff of Nickel plated Zamack 3
(OP)
Does any one know the wear performance of two electroless nickel plated die cast parts rubbing against each other in a line /point contact? Each surface of the plated surfaces are greased. About .25 lbf/inch pressure can be realised between them.
Any suggestions for a low cost plating/selection of material combination(either metals or polymers)?

Teflon (a Fluorocarbon) has the lowest coeff of friction that I know of but I have no numbers.

It is generally true two dislike materials have lower friction and better sliding life. Teflon is excellent for low friction but is expensive very poor in abrasion resistance. So it may not be good for point and line contact. Surface hardness, surface roughness, contact pressure, stroke rate and lubrication are all importan. The best way to verify is to do actual testing.
God bless you.
