Engineers with BS degree allowed to hold NICET?

Engineers with BS degree allowed to hold NICET?

Engineers with BS degree allowed to hold NICET?

(OP)

I had a co-worker tell me I can't become NICET level I certified in Automatic Fire Sprinkler systems, because I have a 4-year BS degree instead of an engineering technology degree.

Is that true?

I have never heard of such a thing and know a few PE's that also have their NICET IV.

NICET requires no degree to become certified.  What NICET does is give some experience credit for accredited engineering technology degrees, but not for engineering degrees.

Go take your exam and earn your Level I.

RE: Engineers with BS degree allowed to hold NICET?

That is not so true. A person I know has a BS and just got his PE title and he has NICET level III. Of course he lied about the work history but that is another subject open to discussion.

RE: Engineers with BS degree allowed to hold NICET?

Its a lie, a conspiracy to hold you back in your career!

Well mabey its not that malicious, but you can get certified. If fact NICET gives an educational credit of up to 18 months for candidates if your degree is related to your field of certification.

Send it in with your application, here's the link:

I agree,

I am a PE in fire protection, and Level IV NICET

How does a PE get to level IV NICET? I read their website and it sounds as if you have to spend all that experience time dedicated to doing the actual working plans..

So if you are PE obviously most of your time is spent doing engineering right?  Or do you also draw your own working plans for every job?

Unless I work directly for a sprinkler contractor on the side drawing plans, I don't see myself every meeting the III or IV experience requirements, unless they let people skate by on that..  For example, if I do one hydraulic calc and set of a plans a year for 20 years is that just as good as the guy who does them 2,000 hours/yr for 20 years?

Who says the person didn't get his NICET first?
