Verse to remember electrical colours

Verse to remember electrical colours

Someone told me that there was a verse that was used to remember the order of the resistor colour numbers.  He said that it wasn't politically correct so it wasn't used nowadays. PC or not, he couldn't remember it.  Anyone know what it is?

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly

Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.  ~Mark Twain

For those that remember the self sufficiency initiative of WW II in growing your own food, the more PC version is:

Bad Boys Race Our Young Girls Behind Victory Garden Walls

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

And for the colours of the rainbow we have the PC version:
Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain
Sadly it gives the inverse colour order.
There is, however, a non PC version for the correct order of colours:
Virgins In Bed Get Your Organs Red

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

In high school it was:

"Bad Boys Rob Only Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly Gold and Silver."

Never knew whether it was PC because PC wasn't in the vocabulary.

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

I remember the rainbow colors as:  ROY G. BIV

An adjective can be distinguished from an adverb by SOCK'M (what size, which one, what color, what kind, how many)

How about: Oscar Had A Herd of Aardvarks - for the three trig functions

But my all-time favorite is Certain Obnoxious Students Detest Memorization of Paleozoic Periods (Cambrian Ordovician Silurian Devonian Mississippian Pennsylvanian Permian).

Man, we are sho nuff a bunch of nerds...

I remember rainbow colours as VIBGYOR. Totally meaningless word but quite easy to remember.  The great lakes are SMHEO but not so easy to pronounce.

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

for trig I use:

Oh Hell Another Hour Of Algebra

Adriaan.
I am an Engineer/part time student (Mechatronics) from South Africa.
Advice from lecturer: "Be warned - when you go into industry your boss will give you a thousand things to do and he wants them done yesterday!" So far he is right...

Does anyone actually use this?  Surely that has to go with sin, cos, tan.  I think it is actually more difficult to remember a verse and what formulas it relates to than to just remember something like sin=opp/hyp and tan=opp/adj.  Don't have to remember cos because it is the only remaining one and can be derived easily.

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

SOHCAHTOA I was always taught. Ends up sounding like being Soccer Toe-er. Another made up word but easy enough to remember, but that may just be because it was drilled into my head for 10 years...

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

For the trig stuff I was always taught to remember it as a great (american) indian chief Soh Cah Toa.  I still use this on occasion since I do enough trig to need it, but hot so much that I can remember it without thinking about it.

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

Here's another for the sine-cosine-tangent thingy:

Saddle Our Horses, Canter Away Happily To Other Adventures

Actually, I refer to the great chief Soh-Cah-Toa when my brain is foggy, just like Kirby.

Good on y'all,

Goober Dave

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

Tan is rise over run (slope).  Cos(0)=1 and Sin(0)=0 and both use the hypotenuse.  Those simple facts seem to be far easier to remember than some made up words or near nonsense phrase.

Just me, though...

RE: Verse to remember electrical colours

Nonsence is always easier to remember then actual facts.  Don't know why, but it explains a lot of TV.
