Demetallisation nickel/gold

Demetallisation nickel/gold

(OP)
If someone can tell me if the nickel plated on gold layer can be removed without evidence of adherence ?

Thanks,

Mbardon

RE: Demetallisation nickel/gold

I would think that, since gold is inert, the nickel could be removed without altering the gold at all. Why not electrolytically remove it? Just reverse the plating process.

RE: Demetallisation nickel/gold

Hello Mcguire,

If the nickel is correctly plated on gold layer, for my point of view, the adherence must be good. If you want to separate the both layers you have to damage the interface.

I personnaly saw on a component, the detachment of the nickel barrier from the gold one without evidence of adherence.

Do you have some feeling about it ?

Thanks,
