Suitable materials for handling cude oil

Suitable materials for handling cude oil

(OP)
Hello together,

I've learned that "crude oil" is a rather elastic term but nevertheless we sometimes have to deal with that in terms of material compatibility. I know that EPDM is a nightmare with any kind of oil and that PTFE is usually good. But for what kind of cude oil BUNA-N or FPM can be used? Does somebody know a good source like a chemical resistance chart which differs between the various crude oils? Thanks in advance!

RE: Suitable materials for handling cude oil

To specify any material, you need to know every constituent in the stream. swwet crude is different the sour, different from high vapor pressure, different from a high aromatic, and different from low viscosity.

You need to know the details before making an econmic selection.  Otheerwise, use the highest grade elastemer you can find, which will be the most expensive.

i  agree with dcasto, you'll need at least a detailed chemical composition and operating conditions, temperature and pressure.

here you can find some useful data on materials compatibility:

hope this help
