I am currently supposed to conduct CFD simulations on a sawdust dryer model. Naturally I need some literature and would like to go through some CFD modelling articles, but I do not know the correct terminology in English and was hoping someone here might help. The dryer producer who ordered the simulations and myself are not English, and the only terminology they know outside our native language (Croatian) is German, and I am not sure that is quite correct either.

The producer titles it to be a "fluid" dryer, but it isn't fluid - bed based, rather it's a long tube through which the sawdust travels at high speeds carried by the flow of hot air. If someone could help me with the correct technical term for such a machine I would be very grateful!

I am looking for the specific word that is "attached" to the described machine... "sawdust dryer" and all the above mentioned terms cover a large range of different machines that can be used to dry sawdust/particulates/anything for that matter.

However, a term, say, "fluid bed dryer" is uniquely determined and points at a very specific type of a machine. So do "rotary dryer" or "spray dryers".

I need the particular term that describes a dryer that takes moist particulate matter into a high-speed stream of hot air and delivers it to the cyclone where it separates the dried particles from the air...

Ah! Found it! :) It's a "pneumatic dryer"!!! I should have guessed earlier considering at acts as a pneumatic conveyor (that's nhow I found it).

As a fairly old engineer I can say that the term "pneumatic dryer" would leave me wondering what you meant. Are you drying air or drying something with air and, if so, how are you drying with air? The other terms you mention refer to specific types of dryers that are different than yours.
I suggest that "pneumatic conveyor dryer" is far more descriptive.

Flow through dryer. A pneumatic dryer would imply a dryer used to remove moisture from compressed air service.

The machine's correct name really is "pneumatic dryer". I wasn't looking to create a term for it, but rather to find a term that is being commonfly used to reffer to it.

Agreed, "pneumatic dryer" doesn't imply there is hot air involved nor what the process is.

I asked the HR department here, and they said the correct terminology would be :
'An organic machinated dehumidificatorisor', or an OMD as they say. They don't speak english either.

Sawdust dryer, bark dryer, chip dryer, hog fuel dryer, wood fuel dryer, strand dryer, flake dryer, all bring specific machinery to mind that dry a variety of wood processing plant's by-products. Pneumatic dryer would send me straight to their power house where the air compressors area. I am with CompositPro on this one.

A quick survey of Google results indicates that "pneumatic dryer" is a valid term for the dryer in question.
