Hello everyone,

I am looking for a North American standard that will cover the design and construction of a rectangular planar sided steel welded storage tank. I found a standard in the Eurocode 3 Part 4-1: Silos but I was wondering if anyone knows of more directly applicable standard.

Thank you in advance!

flummoxed2002,
The Code you refer to is for silo's which are designed generally for "dry" products. Rectangular tanks as you describe are generally designed to empirical/company standards using flat plate theory. As far as I know there are no standards but there are a number of design approaches for example Bloggett's book has one.

flum......

I second DSB's comments.

No nationally recognized standard for rectangular containers.... but several company guidelines exist

Consider posting this question in the "Storage tank Engineering" forum.
