Oxide formation rate on iron/nickel/cobalt material

How important is the cooling rate when oxidizing Kovar material? The process sets the temperature, so our only manageables are oxygen availability, time at temperature, & cooling rate. Does the cooling rate affect the quantity and quality of the oxide layer? Just one or the other? Or neither?
