Determining a size distribution for nodal, regularly shaped tantalum powder is pretty straightforward, but has anybody figured out a way to perform a partical size gradation analysis on flake or non-nodular tantalum (& niobium for that matter).

The problem is that the elongated particles (flakiness less than 20 with some agglomeration) pass through the seive stack 'the long way' when they should be caught. This throws off the final result.

Any suggestions?

Are you precipitating the tantalum or are you and end user?

If you are trying to measure distribution during a the typical sodium reduction process, I think you're out of luck.

If, however, you are dry sifting it then there is hope.
