This group really looks dead but what the heck. I used to have a seat of surfcam and so have always been somewhat interested in it. I have heard a lot of horror stories about corporate trouble and software problems. They are supposedly going to offer maintenance amnesty for those interested and I would like to hear from a current user as to what the situation really is. Thanks, Dave

RE: Velocity 4

I've been a Surfcam user for many years but haven't heard of a maintenance amnesty.

I just installed Velocity 4 but have yet to try it out.  So far our experience has been fairly good.

RE: Velocity 4

I had let Surfcam expire just before velocity 1 came out. Sometime later during V3 I was sent a proposal from a VAR out of Cincinnati to get back on my basic 2axis program for $500.00. There had been no improvements in 2axis since 2002.5 which was when I first signed on so I let it lapse again. It was either Desktop Engineering or Cadalyst I believe that stated recently that this would happen again. But what Surfcam does not seem to understand is that there is no reason to be current on maintenance if there are no improvements. When you get around to checking the new version out in 2axis would you please give an update. Thanks for the reply.

RE: Velocity 4

From my experience in the past 14 years of use, they will offer amnesty if you ask them.  They would rather have some money than none.  And none is what they will get if they want all your back maintenance fees.  As far as Velocity 4 goes I can't say, our maintenance expired just before it came out and we will not renew again.  Over a year went by since the last release so we paid for nothing last year.  I've found over the years that Surfcam is slow in making any improvement making the annual maintenance a crap shoot at best.  Skipping a year or two on maintenance will not hurt any in my opinion.

The company is struggling for sure, unless they make some  improvements in the programs interface, the program will not sale as it should.  It has been a very good program for us over the years but we dread using it because it's so outdated.
