Hi all,
Does shear locking occur in a beam element? What are the reasons ?

Thanks in advance

Inability of 4 node element to model bending

Inability of a higher order theory to model classic theory

results in extra stifnees (over estimated)-hence locking

Solution is reduced integration coreesponding to those terms causing locking

locking can also be a mesh locking-If the mesh hasnt passed the patch test.
