What is a transverse line? Is it a solid white stop bar line?
Is there a diagram somewhere that explains what a transverse line is?

Section 3B.15 from the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/) reads as follows:

Section 3B.15 Transverse Markings
Standard:
Transverse markings, which include shoulder markings, word and symbol markings, stop lines, yield lines, crosswalk lines, speed measurement markings, speed hump markings, parking space markings, and others, shall be white unless otherwise specified herein.
