Catchphrasitivity

(OP)
I'm looking for a good slogan/catchphrase to use and thinking Dilbert style thought of 'Imaginify your Ideation' or even possibly 'Imagineer and leverage your Solutions'. Any good examples of bad english/spelling that would leave any management consultant drooling would be useful.

Does this phrase need to convey anything real, or just nonsense?

Synergistic seems to be to marketing/management types as F is to dock workers these days.  It's used as punctuation.

I kept using it last year when getting asked stupid quesions by Engineering Director etc.  Somehow he saw straight through it.

This will solve all you needs for good phass to use ...

12    the introduction of brutalism
13    the treatment of the main façade
14    the initial stage of conceptual development
15    the by-product of repetitive space articulation
16    the life-cycle cost control
17    the environmental impact analysis
18    energy conservation regulations
19    the structural dynamic analysis

36    the evolution of performance specifications
37    the philosophy of commonality and standardization
38    the study of true fecundity in the state of the art

Pick 1 out of each set 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, and 31-40.

For example pick 2-20-22 & 34 would yield "Aesthetically speaking the internal use adjacencies and circulation maximizes the real probability of cost overruns for the pragmatics of value engineering."

RE: Catchphrasitivity

Awesome.

Was it a cut and paste or do you really have that much time on your hands Rich2001?

I really think we should take a synergismistic approach to this post.

If: Imagining + Engineering = Imagineering

Then doesn't: Engineering + Imagining = Engining

So we should all get on and do some Engining

I have it was an excel spreadsheet that when I call it up it randomly selects the phases and concatenates them into impressive technical gobbledegook.  It may be handy if one needs to vivisepultur someone. bigglasses

That's where I first heard the term, one of the guys hereactually worked with them back in the 90's, I think as a subcontractor.

I think Synthesis should be used more too.

Rich, you could always make some real friends and upload the excel file to Engineering .com using the link in the post window.

Now to work out how to tie my sign off into an excel file...

Ciao.

RE: Catchphrasitivity

Don't you mean "to feel Vitalizationalized"

RE: Catchphrasitivity

I understand that management double speak is very much more time dependent than I thought. I guess they tire of their terminology even quicker than the rest of us.

Core Activities are now referred to as "Legacy Activities".
Growth is Organic and Inorganic. No idea what that means, but that was a popular phraseology for a while.
Other popular words are synergy or synergistic, never "complimentary".

I guess Corus, you would have an easier task if we had a current dictionary of management speak so you could just string a few words together in random order. Since managers cue off buzz words, you don't need complete sentences nor do they have to make sense. Just string a few current words together and you'll have them drooling. Actually, you could probably make up a few words and they'd worry they are not current (au courant). That'll give the perishers some sleepless nights!)

RE: Catchphrasitivity

At a place I used to work, we always knew when the VP of sales had read a new article, as engineering would be flooded with new buzzwords that sales wanted us to be aware of.  At that point, we'd tell him how we would change our activities to support his sales initiatives.  In other words, we basically just explained to him how we were already doing what he just came up with without making him think we were already doing it.

Pointy Haired Bossitude at its finest.

Always remember that a fancy catchphrase is just them covering up for a lack of talent and knowledge.  It's the business equivalent of driving a Corvette.

RE: Catchphrasitivity

"...It's the business equivalent of driving a Corvette."

ooffa, thats harsh man...good, but damn that harsh....

RE: Catchphrasitivity

Our upper management are talking about "Deep Penetration" in their PR these days.  Yikes!! Reminds me of scud flicks seen on Amsterdam holidays as a student.

RE: Catchphrasitivity

This is your opportunity to embrace their slogan with a series of more and more suggestive drawings and designs.  Then, when they call you on it, act innocent and claim that you hadn't realized what you were doing, but something must have driven you to do it subliminally.

Hey SomptingGuy,

It sounds like a type of welding to me...

RE: Catchphrasitivity

OK – and to add to the list above, you can also insert these great wine descriptors  to further confuse your listener.  After inserting the 1-10, 11-20, etc. you then add:

1.  to instill a solid block of flavor enhanced by mineral & violet scents and supported by lamb worthy tannins.
2.  thereby creating earthy and firm bodies with tense tannins and juicy red fruit, gentle and refined.
3.  which makes for dusty and mineral content, fruity and meaty, full of complexity and charm.
4.  so that its luscious tannins and refreshing acidity enhance a forestry character.
5.  with an intriguing seductive aroma of cinnamon, dust and meat.
6.  which are voluptuous in fruit and austere in tannins.
7.  presenting a cascade of toffee, chocolate, sweet spices and vibrant fruit flavors; with mineral and tobacco scents.
8.  with tannins feeling as lean and tense as the muscles of a marathon runner.
9.  containing floral impacts as peppery as extra virgin olive oil.
10. revealing complex, young, firmly structured pleasantries with boldness on a light and silky frame.
11. which are ripe and round, yet elegant and sophisticated.

So a good combination might be this:

Above and beyond plebian comfort objectives the structural dynamic analysis must utilize and be functionally interwoven with the evolution of performance specifications with an intriguing seductive aroma of cinnamon, dust and meat.

RE: Catchphrasitivity

ROFL!

RE: Catchphrasitivity

just use latin phrases a lot,

vox nihili (voice of nothing)
video et taceo (I see and keep silent)
video bona proboque deteriora sequor (I see and approve of the good things, but I follow the inferior things)
velocius quam asparagi coquantur (more rapidly than asparagus will be cooked)

you get the point, you can say what you really think and make them happy at your high level of commitment(as long as they don't speak latin:)

and remember
Quando omni flunkus moritati (latinish for When all else fails, play dead)

RE: Catchphrasitivity

An unknown recruiter called me the other day, said he had was seeking a position for an architect. Knowing my firm had an opening for same, I inquired as to the experience of this person.

Recruiter: 10 years in design of application specific platforms

Me: Platforms, what sort of platforms?

Recruiter: SOC platforms consisting of general-purpose, configurable components and multiple configurability options. - or something along those lines.

Me: Huh? Well we usually design complete building structures. Does he have any experience with that, or just platforms?

Recruiter: Oh definitely. His experience includes complete structured systems as well as platforms.

This went on for one or two more exchanges before it occurred to me that the recruiter was speaking of an integrated circuit designer, not an architect that designs buildings.

Just had a gem from my manager in a note addressed to all. It read - 'Aspiration is the preparation to the path'.

Either he's had a 'calling' or he just inhaled. Who knows.

RE: Catchphrasitivity

my bet for your next email is "perspiration is the path"

RE: Catchphrasitivity

Riches, enlightenment, fulfillment...?

RE: Catchphrasitivity

the path to the shower of course :)

MotorVib, love the quote.  If only I had had the balls to say it to my wife (instead of biting my lip any paying all those fuel bills).  BTW, some of the funniest bits in the Dilbert books are the real emails from enginerds describing Dilbertisms.

I'm also apparantly and Umpa Lumpa of Science based on line in the TV show "The Big Bang Theory".  She's convinced my house at university was like them, I've tried explaining but...
