convergence problem with abaqus
convergence problem with abaqus
(OP)
hi all,
I am working with abaqus/cae 6.2. I have a model of two sheets of steel joined by clinching. One is fixed, the second one is pulled. I have added some contact with friction between the two sheets. I have some results but with a gross mesh. If I mesh with smaller elements, I have no result. does someone know how to do to have a fine mesh and convergence even if it takes a long time?
thanks in advance for your help.

By the way, there is a abaqus user mailing on yahoo.

As already stated, there are many reasons in implcit nonlinear FEA why convergence may be difficult to achieve. Not knowing the specifics of your problem, I can't give a more educated answer.
Possibly ask some coworkers for help; if you are entitled to ABAQUS support, call your support office and they can help iron out the issues (although you'll have to be more specific than you have been so far).

However here are a few thjings which may help you in solving the convergence problem.
Convergence will be a problem in contact analysis when the BC is not been correctly specified. Suppose the BC is specefied correctly then check for the mesh density in the slave and master region. It is always recommended to have a finer mesh in the slave surface as compared to the master surface.
If the elements you are using is tets then it is better to use C3D10M elements. If you are using Brick elements try to match the mesh density in the slave and the master surfaces.
Try to do the initial run without considering friction.
