West coast building code design live loads in 1962
West coast building code design live loads in 1962
(OP)
Does anyone know what the minimum roof live load (or snow load) and the minimum floor live load that was required for design of an office building in Oregon back in 1962? I am fairly confident that the applicable code of that time was produced by ICBO for the west coast region of the US, but I do not have this document.

Where is this building?
In the 1973 edition of the UBC, the furthest back I have at my fingertips, Table 23B for Minimum Roof Live Loads gives a breakdown of 10 to 12 psf on the major structural components depending on the tributary area seen. It also has a note at the bottom that "where snow load occurs, the roof structure shall be designed for such loads as determined by the Building Official." As I saw no other reference to any slo load tables in this edition, the call may have been delegated to the local BO at the time of this UBC and those prior.

Msquared48, does your 1973 edition of the UBC give minimum Floor live loads for office buildings? Mainly I need to know whether load requirements have increased or decreased since 1962. My assumption – they have increased, but it is worth it to check.

Regarding the snow loads - that info should be available through the Bend, Oregon Building Department, or the county in which Bend lies, as implied in the note of Table 23-B I mentioned before. I assume you have checked with them though to no avail?
