ASBOG Oct 06

ASBOG Oct 06

ASBOG Oct 06

Is anyone takign the ASBOG Exam on October 6th?

How is studying going? what are you doing for the Minerology and petrology portions of the exam??

What do you think of the drastic change to the format?

RE: ASBOG Oct 06

I have taken the FG portion before and am taking it on Oct. 6 (again).  For the Mineralogy and petrology I have relied on the study manuals purchased over the web.  I think the ASBOG website is pretty good about the distribution of topic questions on the exam.

What drastic format change are you referencing?

RE: ASBOG Oct 06

The distribution of questions has been drastically changed for this exam- Check out the task analysis in the handbook published may? 2006 on the ASBOG website.   The exam used to be weighted heavily on Hydrogeology and Field methods- (I believe combined accounted for over 60% of the exam).  Now it spreads the questions much more evenly through out the subjects.  What type of questions did they ask pertaining to "Hard Rock" geology, mineral assemblages etc?  I work for an environmental consulting company and I'm strong in the Field methods and Hydro portion, so this change has me pulling my hair out.  Did you have the REG Review manual when you took the last exam?

RE: ASBOG Oct 06

Well fellas, how did it go?  I am working on getting signed up for March 2nd.

RE: ASBOG Oct 06

I have taken the FG portion before (I have already passed the PG portion).  Memorization can be challenging for some of the questions, particularly for the wide range of geology.  I wish there was some lean toward providing a handout reference booklet, something like engineers in training get to use on the E.I.T. exam (now the FE exam).

With that said, I cannot say with any comfort that I passed the FG this time.  I believe it to be a fair exam however it incorporates a lot of material without allowing the use of any reference material.

Hope others feel more comfortable with their exam efforts.

RE: ASBOG Oct 06

I honestly cant say how i did
i walked out and did not feel like i flunked, and didnt feel like I aced it-  I though tthe PG portion was more difficult than the FG-
