For leading power factor.Regulation is negative because of leading current.phasor concepts can be understood easily.
But what exatly happens in it.

not sure i understand the question; p.f. exist in AC circuits because of magnetization; the current is "borrowed then given back (lagging/leading pf). take a look at this site for simple explanations www.arco-electric.com/html/pf_generalinfo.cfm
