Establishing and Writing company modeling and drawing standards
Establishing and Writing company modeling and drawing standards
(OP)
Greetings
I might be opening issues here discussed in other threads. I have seen alot of discussion here about licencing and insurance and incorperating for protection. I dont want this question/thread to discuss those issues.
I am considering from experience what my employers had or didn't have for sound modeling and drafting standards. The drafting standards are not such a hard thing to establish especially if I just adopt what is written in the ASME Y14.5M-1994 book. I have worked with companies that have used this book as gospel and companies that want to slant their opinion of "what it really means" in the standards they have established. My concern is more on the modeling of the 3-D models and getting away from paper.(I have a theory about this that I am certain is not new and it can be discussed in another thread as well) I am asking for a source of a guidline/outline to establish my own company standard so when I hire employees they know what is expected of them as a project progresses. There is one company that I worked for in my past that if I could obtain their standards I would adopt them as my own but since that is confidential information I cannot do that. I have to emmulate what I remember from them in my own words and doing this I see as a daunting task. If I had a general outline (rough sketch) of something I could edit I would appreciate it. Do any of you know a good source? It would keep this project organized.
TIA

Some companies would sell their standards.

I doubt it. I have alot of free time and figure I can develope rough drafts of this from memory. I realize a person needs to assemble a team of people hired or contracted to put something like this together. I am trying to amase money for my attempt being on my own. I have a couple interested customers, and want to service them with complete attention instead of trying to work fulltime as well.

My suggestion is that you join SAE, or SME. There are plenty of members who sit on the ANSI/ASME committee, and can readily give you feedback. Plus, there are plenty of other perks for joining. It's $100 or so per year, and it's tax deductible.
I used to be a member of SME, and I'm thinking of joining SAE. It was always worth the money, for me, at least.
