Folks-
Are there any metrology certifications related to ASME Y14.5M-1994? Similarly, is there any certification (e.g. ASQC, ISO, etc.) that a business can earn that shows that it is Y14.5M-fluent in all aspects of dimensional specification and control?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to find a metal fabricator that REALLY knows the standard (rather than just SAYS it does).

ASME will certify an individual's knowledge of Y15.5, they have two levels of certification, Technician and Senior. I don't know of anyone that certifies shops.

You're preaching to the choir about Y14.5. But Y14.5 is not a measurement standard nor does ASME offer metrology certifications.

ASME Y 14.5M - 94 is a GD & T standard but there is nothing in it for certification in metrology.

This standard does not get into anything about measuring.

AS far as the standard, if the companies that you are dealing with have anyone that is certified as an ASME GDT & T Professional, you are in. I got to tell you that most are messed up in this area. Ask if anyone has taken a course in GD& T? Let's see the certification "objective evidence". It they keep saying True Position rather than positional, they don't know.

How do I know? I am a GD & T Professional - both Technologist and Senior but my background is in quality management. It is a bit of a mess out there.

Good luck!!!
